With a budget of 79 billion euros for the period 2014-2020, Horizon 2020 is the European Union's new Framework programme for research and innovation.

The FNRS National Contact Point (NCP-FNRS) aims at encouraging the submission of proposals and increasing the chances of the researchers of the universities of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation succeeding in this programme. A premium for the setting up of H2020 projects can also be granted.

Horizon 2020 has three priorities:

  • Scientific excellence: all of this priority is covered by the NCP-FNRS
  • Industrial primacy
    • Innovation in SMEs
    • Key generic technologies (Information and Communication Technologies-ICT, nanotechnologies, materials, fabrication, biotechnologies, microelectronics, photonics, space)
    • Access to high-risk funding
  • Challenges for society
    • Health, demographic evolution and well-being
    • European challenges in relation to bioeconomics
    • Safe, clean and efficient energy
    • Intelligent, green and integrated transport
    • Combatting climate change, the efficient use of resources and raw materials
    • Societies open to everyone : challenge covered by the NCP-FNRS
    • Safe societies - protect the freedom and security of Europe and its citizens.
