Management bodies

The F.R.S.-FNRS and its associated funds are all administrated by a Board of Directors or a Management Committee made up of representatives of university institutions from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation as well as personalities from the economic, social and political world.

F.R.S.-FNRS Board of Directors : more

The Board of Directors has the jurisdiction to:

      • manage and award funding granted by the different Authorities (Wallonia-Brussels Federation and Federal State)
      • represent international scientific institutions and the associated contributions,
      • award Prizes, distinctions or special grants allocated following special donations or bequests,
      • carry out the administrative tasks required for the execution of these competences.
Bureau of the Board of Directors : more

The Bureau studies all the questions which have to be submitted to the Board of Directors, and makes proposals to it. It does the same for any other question which the Board has asked it to examine.

Associated Funds

Under the supervision of the F.R.S.-FNRS, the “Associated Funds” are specialised scientific institutions which are in direct contact with the evolution of research. Their organisation and running have been conceived in such a way that together they form a coherent whole. This coherence is guaranteed by the existence of a unique administration which the action of the different Funds relies upon. The procedures for submitting and selecting requests are identical.

While the F.R.S.-FNRS, FRIA and FRESH essentially financeindividual research (mandates, grants or credits), the four other associated Funds (IISN, FRSM, FRFC and FRFS) mainly subsidise research programmes presented by laboratories. The financial support allocated to the promotor enables him/her to take on the requisite scientific and technical staff, to acquire the necessary equipment and to cover the operating costs.
